This one is a bit convoluted, so enter at your own risk. This was written very shortly after OBL got what was coming to him.

Now picture a short time later, and you walk into that same backyard, find the new cover over the well, and you step on it. Again. Geez man, doncha ever learn?
Uh, no…I don’t.
As usual, I figure there are just two kinds of people in this world. One kind holds an opinion, and the other kind holds the opposite opinion, and they ain’t never gonna stop arguing, trying to convert each other to their way of thinking. Why would anyone choose to join these debates? Stepping into this well is a no win. And no, I can’t help myself.
Occasionally I wonder why there are two kinds of people in this world. Just what is the essential difference that leads one to have such clear thoughts, and drops the other into the depths of lunacy? Heck, I don’t know. I keep trying to convert those poor deluded ones, but they just aren’t listening.
I was reminded of this divergence of opinion with the death of Osama bin Laden. Millions around the world poured into the streets to celebrate the departure of the evil man. Millions feared, and thus hated this one mass murderer.  I joined them with a subdued sense of relief, knowing full well that many aspiring replacements lurk in the shadows to continue Osama’s attack on our way of life.
But silly me…I forgot for a moment that there are two kinds of people, and that one kind thought it was entirely America’s fault that bin Laden was driven to murder, maim, and attempt to subjugate folks like us. And it was we who are the bad guys here. And poor bin Laden is just a misunderstood victim.  And that the celebrants are the lunatics. Many of this one kind of folks holding this opinion live right here in this country, and are the very targets of these madmen.
A friend of a friend knows somebody who is acquainted with one of the innocent people who was murdered during the botched robbery of an Oakland nightclub a couple of weeks ago.  A handful of criminals burst into the place and ended up firing a rifle into a group of people, randomly killing innocent folks who simply waited to party and dance.
These criminals used a firearm that the Media calls an “Assault Weapon” to kill these people, so I guess the victims are more dead than if they were killed by more acceptable weapons.  And my friend began again the long standing argument, demanding that every decent citizen in this country be forced to surrender their firearms because a handful of savages used one to hurt innocent people. She joins that one kind of people who apparently believe in punishing the innocent and overlooking the guilty, cause I guess it somehow isn’t the criminals’ fault.
Well, there are two kinds of people in this world. The one group sees the impact that evil people can have on the decent people, and names an object that obviously made these evil people do what they did, and immediately this group sets out to save themselves, not from the evil people, but from that object. The cry to ban firearms rings out yet again, because criminals can misuse them to hurt people.
I have this book….a compilation of the “World’s Stupidest Laws”.
In it are many laws that the author decided didn’t make a lot of sense. In Blythe, California for instance, it is against the law for someone to wear cowboy boots if they don’t own more than two cows. Don’t know what motivated this one, but it seems a bit harsh.
In The Netherlands, it is legal to be a prostitute, but against the law to not pay taxes on your earnings as a prostitute. Apparently they worry more about their taxes over there than their behavior. And I found one place where they mandate that every bicyclist use their hand signals prior to making a turn, but also that they always keep both hands on the handlebars. I guess they just don’t want folks to ever change direction.
One thing I noticed was how many laws, from countries all over the world, punish people for forcing unsuspecting, innocent criminals to steal their cars. About now you might be going, “Huh?” Who punishes people for being the victims of crime? Well, apparently there are two kinds of people in this world.
The laws in question prohibit things like leaving a car unlocked or a window open, or heaven forbid…leaving the keys in the ignition(!), for these horrible transgressions obviously force people to steal these cars. And it is entirely the fault of the car owners. One kind of people thinks such laws are unbelievable, yet this makes perfect sense to the other kind of people.
Oh the poor car thief, the hapless murderer, and the unfortunate terrorist. It’s not their fault. But it has to be somebody’s fault. So I guess that means…it’s ours.
